Waikenda is set to contest for the Kiambu senatorial seat in the upcoming August 9 General Elections.   

Political Director Machel Waikenda has resigned from his job at State House to join politics.  

Waikenda is set to contest for the Kiambu senatorial seat in the upcoming August 9 General Elections.   

Speaking to Capital FM, the political director announced his departure from State House on Tuesday, February 2. 

"I confirm that I’ve resigned from State House to run for the Kiambu Senate seat," Waikenda said. 

President Uhuru Kenyatta's Chief of Staff Nzioka Waita also announced his exit from State House noting that he will be resigning on February 9, 2022, to run for the Machakos Governor's seat. 

"I will work till the 9th of Feb. I will make a farewell call to the president and ask for his blessings and support and thank him for allowing me to work for the people of Kenya in his service," Waita stated.

Waita noted that he would convince the people of Machakos that their resources are in safe hands promising to transform the County. 

"I have no political experience; I am an administrator. The county has enough politicians, they don’t need more. I want to help the county manage its money and ensure people get the services they need," he said.  

Public officers who intend to contest in the General Election are expected to resign from public office before February 9.
