Kenya now has 22,152,144 registered voters across the country.

The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC)  ended the second phase of the voter registration exercise across the country Sunday, February 6.

The electoral body could not hit its target owing to low voter registration turnout.

Following the exercise, Kenya now has 22,152,144 registered voters across the country.

Rift Valley is the leading region in terms of voter registration followed by Central and closely by Nyanza.

The 22, 142,144 are distributed in the counties as follows:

• Rift Valley – 5, 344, 217

• Central – 3, 154, 708

• Nyanza – 3, 081, 981

Apart from Nairobi, Kiambu is the second county with the highest number of registered voters with about 1,293,309 people registered.

Lamu county is the listed county with about 79,000 registered voters.

The IEBC has been appealing to Kenyans to register as voters but the turnout has far below the expectation.

The registration exercise, however, continues at IEBC constituency offices.

IEBC has scheduled the forthcoming elections for August 9.

Aspirants are now hitting the ground to campaign and seek support ahead of the by-elections.
