Mutua said he is leaning towards the Azimio La Umoja movement under Raila.

Machakos Governor Alfred Mutua has said he will vote in the ODM leader Raila Odinga in the event he does not vie for the presidency.

Speaking to Citizen television on Thursday morning, the presidential hopeful said he is leaning towards the Azimio La Umoja movement under Raila.

He maintained that despite being on the Azimio political camp, he has not stepped down in his bid to clinch the presidency.

Mutua revealed that he has a soft spot for the ODM leader Raila owing to his democratic ideals and said he will not back him in the event he changes his mind in vying for the top seat.

"If I am not going to run for the presidency, if anything happens, for example, I am unable to run for whatever reasons and I am still able to vote, I will vote for Raila.

"Because I know what he stands for. But for now, I hope Raila will get to a point and say 'Mutua is better, he is a younger version of me'," he said.

Mutua is among the three of the Ukambani governors who have rallied behind the Odinga presidency even as they have openly dismissed Kalonzo's bid for the top seat.

The others include Kitui governor Charity Ngilu and her Makueni counterpart Kivutha Kibwana.
