Omanyala clocked 6.57 seconds in the race, smashing the previous record of 6.60 seconds which he had set last weekend at the Meeting Metz Monselle Athlelor in Metz, France.


Sprinter Ferdinand Omanyala on the night of Thursday, February 17, 2022,  broke the national 60 metres indoor record in the men’s 60m race at the Hauts-de-France Pas-de-Calais indoor championships in Lievin, France. 

However, it was a tough night for Kenyan athletes as Omanyala Came fourth despite the achievement.

Omanyala clocked 6.57 seconds in the race, smashing the previous record of 6.60 seconds which he had set last weekend at the Meeting Metz Monselle Athlelor in Metz, France.


Italy's Marcell Jacobs who is the Olympics 100 m champion won the race after recording a time of 6.50 seconds. Americans Cravont Charleston and Elijah Hall came second and third respectively, registering times of 6.52 seconds and 6.57.

Abel Kipsang came short of the national record when he finished second clocking 4 minutes 57.21 seconds in the 2000 m race.

Eglay Nalianya secured won bronze in the women’s 800m with a time of 2 minutes.

Jacob Kirop and Nicholas Kimeli came 6th and 10th respectively in the men’s 3000m.

Olympic 1500m champion, Norwegian Jakob Ingebritsen broke the world indoor 1500m record with a time of 3:30.60, smashing the previous record by 0.44 seconds.

Kenya’s Vincent Keter finished 10th after falling down in the opening lap.
