Five people died in a similar accident at the Nyakome area along the busy Kisii-Nyamira highway on the morning of Monday, February 28, 2022.

The five died after ramming into a lorry.

Further reports indicate that five other passengers suffered injuries and were rushed to nearby hospitals for treatment.

The accident adds to the list of numerous fatal road carnages that have rocked the country over the last few months.

The National Transport Safety Authority (NTSA) has since attributed the accidents to reckless driving and carelessness.

Last week, the authority announced that it will roll out a number of safety measures to curb the rising cases of road accidents in the country.

The operation targets road users who violate traffic rules and un-roadworthy vehicles.
