Inspector-General of Police Hillary Mutyambai has said over 200 boda boda riders have been arrested in a major crackdown in Nairobi CBD.

According to Mutyambai, the crackdown follows the sexual assault on a female motorist on Forest Road, Nairobi, 

“We have 229 riders in custody,” Mutyambai said. “913 motorcycles were also seized.”

Mutyambai added that they will work round the clock in ensuring all suspects are brought to book.

“We do not condone such criminal acts and those responsible will have to face justice once they are found,” Mutyambai said.

A viral video of a woman being molested by suspected boda boda riders went viral on social media provoking calls for actions among Kenyans.

On Monday, police spokesperson Bruno Shioso said 32 suspects had been arrested over the incident and are set to be arraigned on Tuesday.

The suspects are likely to face sexual assault charges as well as robbery with violence.

On Tuesday, Nairobi Woman Rep Esther Passaris held demos to protest against the heinous act.

They moved to police headquarters to demand answers over the incident even as they condemned the act.
