Interior CS Fred Matiang'i announced the President's waiver on Wednesday and said the registration will take place at all Huduma centres in the country.

The exercise is set to start on March 21.

The development is aimed at weeding out rogue operators who have made the boda boda sector indisciplined and full of thugs who are terrorising other Kenyans.

A video of an incident where a female motorist was sexually assaulted by boda boda riders led to the crackdown in a bid to restore order.

The female motorist was assaulted at Forest road after an accident.

The woman had knocked a rider leading to an incident where other riders accosted him and sexually assaulted her.

The incident attracted the rage of Kenyans who took to social media to protest and call for immediate arrest of the suspects.

Kenyans raised concerns saying the sector has been marred with hooliganism and asked the state to intervene and salvage the situation.
