Ngunyi said the Gema region will make a shift towards the August polls and leave the DP hanging.

Political Analyst Mutahi Ngunyi now says deputy president William Ruto is poised to lose in the August 9, polls.

In a tweet on Monday morning, the analyst predicted that the DP will be betrayed by the Gema community.

Gema stands for Gikuyu Embu and Meru Association.

The three communities have been voting as a block in many general elections and many presidential aspirants have been seeking their support owing to their vote-rich nature.

According to Ngunyi, the Gema region that now appears to be backing the DP will make a shift towards the August polls and leave Ruto hanging.

"Dear William Ruto: GEMA will betray you. It is not a matter of whether or not. It is a matter of when. And when they betray you, you will fall from hero to zero; from grace to grass. End of discussion," Ngunyi said.

Ngunyi, who has been a critic of the DP  after the 2018 polls, has a soft spot for the ODM leader Raila Odinga who has enjoyed a close working relationship with President Uhuru Kenyatta.

Ruto is banking on the support of the Mt Kenya region to win the presidency owing to its huge vote basket.

Without the Mt Kenya votes, political analysts say it is impossible for the DP to win the presidency.

Ngunyi is rooting for Raila's presidency and he has been making remarks that appear to favour the Azimio La Umoja camp while disparaging Ruto's side.

The analyst is well known for coining the tyranny of numbers phrase that described the Uhuru-Ruto win in the 2013 polls.
