  • Senator Mutula Kilonzo Jnr calls out MPs after demanding to have a helicopter on standby to evacuate them to a well-equipped hospital in case of an emergency.
  • Lawmakers want to have well-equipped ambulances with the latest technology.

Makueni Senator Mutula Kilonzo Jnr has called out Members of the National Assembly over their demands to be given emergency choppers for evacuation.

On Wednesday the Senator questioned the logic behind the helicopter while millions of Kenyans are suffering and affected by COVID-19.

In addition, Senator Kilonzo noted that medics who are on the front line fighting the deadly COVID-19 don't even have access to Protective Personal Equipment (PPEs).

"We ( the MPs)are demanding for helicopter evacuation, while my friends in KMPDU are asking for allowances and Protective gear for doctors trying to save COVID patients. We deserve the vitriol directed at us by the Public!" the Makueni Senator tweeted.

On Tuesday MPs mourned their colleague former Matungu Legislator Justus Murunga who died due to lack of oxygen at the medical facilities he visited.

Following Murunga’s death, the legislators urged the Parliamentary leadership to relook their medical care provision and improve it accordingly.

Part of the new recommendations by MPs include; having a helicopter on standby to evacuate them to a well-equipped hospital in case of an emergency.

Kwanza MP Ferdinand Wanyonyi opined that Parliament should work to ensure all legislators have access to a hotline number for a helicopter to evacuate them to a good hospital in case of an emergency.

“We were requesting — and I have managed to talk to the clerk of the National Assembly about this, that we be given a hotline number to helicopter services just in case,” Mr Wanyonyi said.
