Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) Executive Director Oduor Ong'wen has issued a statement on allegations that he is soliciting for money from aspirants ahead of the party's nominations.

In his statement, Ong'wen said he had been informed that some unknown people have been going around asking for money claiming to have been sent by him, which is not true.

He noted that the party has funds to conduct its nominations and no point has it asked for funding from outside to help conduct the primaries.

Ong'wen called on party members to treat any demand from anyone as extortion and report to relevant authorities.

"The ODM Party doesn’t lack resources to fund its primaries. These monies are sourced from Political Parties' Fund, your monthly contributions and the nomination fees you have paid. Private contributions are not solicited therefore. Treat any such demands as extortion and report the extortionists to relevant agencies," he said.

He further stated that he only has two operational phone numbers and that he has never asked for money to offer public service.

"In my entire life, I have never solicited private incentive or inducement to render public service."

"Please don't be conned." he added.

Cases of extortion are usually rampant during political party primaries across the countries with most aspirant falling prey to extortion, as they seek to have direct nominations with the party’s they intend to use in seeking political seats.
