Muturi is set to join Ruto's Kenya Kwanza camp on Saturday morning

Speaker of the National Assembly Justin Muturi is set to officially join the Kenya Kwanza coalition on Saturday.

According to sources privy to the under happenings, Muturi of the Democratic Party leader will sign a coalition agreement with Ruto, and Mudavadi's led KKA coalition on Saturday morning.

Muturi will be the fourth leader and political party from the Mt Kenya region to join Kenya Kwanza Alliance after Moses Kuria's Chama Cha Kazi, William Kabogo's Tujibebe party and Mwangi Kiunjuri's TSP joined Kenya Kwanza.

It is not yet clear whether Muturi, who had earlier declared interest to run for the presidency, will shelve his interests and support the KKA candidate once he signs the pact.

Muturi's DP party and Kenya Kwanza Alliance are keen on beating Saturday's deadline for political coalition parties to submit their agreements to the Registrar of Political Parties as per the Political Parties (Amendment) Act 2021.

This comes just two months after Muturi ruled out joining any of the big coalitions in the run-up to the August 9 elections.

Speaking on the 21st of February, the DP party leader said that although forming and joining coalitions is good, there must be trust to guide such talks.

“Coalitions just like marriages must be guided by principles such as fidelity, tolerance, honesty, and integrity and the glue that keeps them together is simple. Consultations, Consensus, Cooperation,

and compromise,” said Muturi.

He also took time to throw jabs at President Uhuru Kenyatta and Raila Odinga over their political union, saying it was wrong for the government to support the opposition and for the opposition to support the government.
