Communications Authority Director-General Ezra Chiloba has warned Kenyans that they will be switched off if they don't register and update their sim card details by April 15, 2022.

Speaking on Friday during the launch of the KUZA Awards, Chiloba noted that the compliance rate across the country was bad.

"If you don't do that (register) the telcos are going to switch you off. Looking at the situation across the country, the compliance rate is not good at all which means the risks are even much higher," he said.

Chiloba stated that the country has about 65 million active cards and all of them had to be accounted for.

''We must ensure each subscriber is duly registered. We have about 65 million SIM cards active in Kenya. It means each and every person born in Kenya has a number attached to them. But we know the fact is most people have more than one SIM card.

"The requirement of SIM card registration is not a new one. The regulations at issue now are the 2015 regulations which provide how subscribers are supposed to register," Chiloba stated.
