Addressing the press on Sunday, April 10, Mutua made a u-turn on his previous threat to quit the Azimio la Umoja coalition.

Machakos Governor Alfred Mutua has issued a statement after convening a meeting with Maendeleo Chap Chap (MCC) delegates.

Addressing the press on Sunday, April 10, Mutua made a u-turn on his previous threat to quit the Azimio la Umoja coalition.

The Machakos Governor said that he was ready for a handshake with Kalonzo Musyoka to ensure Azimio presidential candidate Raila Odinga wins the August 2022 election.

"I’m ready for a handshake; we should cease-fire and forge forward as a team to secure Raila’s presidency. It’s Raila Odinga’s time," he stated.

Mutua offered himself to be Odinga's running mate ahead of the election.

"I'm 51 years old very happy, very youthful, and therefore, I present myself for consideration as the running mate to Raila Odinga.

"If I’m not offered the position of a deputy president, I will still work with Raila because I’m not here just for the positions, but we want to balance the past, the present, and the future," Mutua stated.

The Machakos Governor also reached out to Kalonzo and requested that they work together and ensure an Odinga victory.

"I have a special plea for Kalonzo, I respect you but this campaign is not about you, and not about me it's about the people and the victory of Odinga," he said.
