The choice of running mate is proving to be a political hot potato for both the Azimio La Umoja One Kenya Alliance and the Kenya Kwanza Alliance.

Kimilili MP Didmus Barasa has dismissed media reports indicating that Deputy President William Ruto has settled on Tharaka Nithi Senator Kithure Kindiki as his running mate.

Reacting to a report by Citizen Weekly which indicated that Kindiki will be Ruto's running mate, the outspoken MP said the Kenya Kwanza Alliance is yet to settle on the Senator.

Barasa revealed that the issue of the running mate is still being deliberated on and once complete, Kenyans will be informed on who the DP has chosen.

He said the announcement of the chosen running mate will be done soon.

"The issue of Running mate shall be announced soon by Kenya Kwanza Alliance. Ignore fake news in Newspapers, they like guesswork," Barasa said.

Both camps are said to be targeting a running mate from the Mt Kenya region owing to its huge vote basket.

The Star reported on Tuesday that Ruto has decided to pick a running mate from the Mt Kenya region.

Raila on the other hand is being rumoured to be seeking a running mate from the central region.

IEBC Chair Wafula Chebukati told a local media house that aspirants have until April 28, to settle on their preferred running mates.
