Ruto said the late president guided him and was always available when he sought help as a minister in the grand coalition government.

Deputy President William Ruto used the late President Mwai Kibaki to explain his bottom-up economic model.

This was during the burial service of the late President Mwai Kibaki in Othaya Nyeri county.

Ruto mourned the late Kibaki as a perfect example of his bottom economic model saying he dared to rise from the unknown village in Othaya, Nyeri county, to become a statesman.

"Mwai Kibaki is the father of modern-day Kenya. From this Kanyange village in Othaya, Kibaki managed to become somebody in Kenya. That is the best demonstration of the bottom-up economic model," he said.

Ruto at the same time remembered Kibaki for removing tax levies on boda boda sector which saw several Kenyans able to afford it hence creating employment for themselves.

The DP noted that he worked closely with Kibaki while serving in his cabinet as a minister.

At the same time, Ruto noted that the departed president stood with him together with President Uhuru Kenyatta when they were facing ICC cases as a result of 2007 post-election violence.

"When President Kenyatta and I were in trouble over ICC, President Kibaki stood with the US."
