Atwoli said Cotu is an independent body and not allied to any political formation.

COTU Secretary-general Francis Atwoli has hit back at Ford Kenya Party Leader and Bungoma Senator Moses Wetangula for disparaging him over his leadership of the union.

In a tweet on Tuesday morning, the Cotu boss rekindled the gold scandal in which the senator was implicated and said his fate lies in the hands of Saudi based businessmen who said they had been conned.

He defended himself saying Cotu is an independent body and not allied to any political formation.

"Can somebody educate Moses Masika Wetangula that though his fate is in the hands of Arabs in Saudia, COTU-Kenya is not a department of the Ministry of Labour it is a free and independent labour movement anchored to the International Labour Organization," Wetangula said.

During the labour day on Sunday, Wetangula chided Atwoli suggesting that he is incompetent.

He went further to suggest that Atwoli has done nothing to uplift the lives of workers who are in dire need of better wages.

"Today (Sunday) is May Day! We celebrate the dignity of labour and the workers of the world. The Kenyan labour movement is led by a boisterous, opulent & irritant leader, adorning gold ornaments…Atwoli. He represents the ugly face of capitalist obscenity!" Wetangula tweeted.

The Bungoma senator has been an ardent critic of Atwoli who politically has also become his nemesis.

While Atwoli is rooting for Raila's presidency, the Former Bungoma Senator now backs Ruto for the top seat.
