Cases of domestic violence have been on the rise in the country with some leading to fatal incidences.

Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations are hunting down a teacher who is accused of attempting to murder his estranged life.

The man is said to have accosted his wife on Wednesday night and hit her with a hammer and a knife.

After committing the act, the said teacher identified as James Kimeu, 35, fleed from the scene leaving her for dead.

"Caren Namubuya, 29, who was stabbed on the chest and hit on the head severally with a hammer," DCI Boss George Kinoti said in a statement.

Namubuya survived the assault and is recuperating at the Lunga Lunga Sub-County hospital in stable condition.

The incident happened after Kimeu invited the estranged wife to his house for reconciliation talks. The two had separated before Kimeu invited her to his house.

"However, Kimeu locked the main door with a padlock and turned on her savagely, with a kitchen knife and a hammer," Kinoti added.

Neighbours who heard the commotion forcefully gained entry into the house and found the victim lying on the floor in a pool of blood.

The man who is a teacher at Menzamwenye primary school however managed to escape, and detectives have since launched a manhunt for him.

"Should you have any information that may lead to his arrest, #FichuakwaDCI anonymously through our toll-free line 0800 722 203," DCI added.

Despite calls to have families find alternative modes of conflict resolution, many have been able to contain their emotions and have instead resorted to violence.

It is, however, important for women to consider having talks instead of resorting to violence.
