Kalonzo, however, said he will not attend the running mate interview and called for Uhuru and Raila to organize a meeting to solve the stalemate.

Wiper Leader Kalonzo has told off Deputy President William Ruto for defending him over being interviewed as a potential running mate of the ODM leader Raila Odinga.

Speaking in Mlolongo, Machakos County on Thursday, Kalonzo said he does not need anyone from the UDA party and the DP himself to defend him.

He said his mission is to ensure the second in command and his allies go home in the August 9, polls.

"Let the UDA not defend me, I don't want them to defend me. I want to ensure the UDA party fails and Ruto goes home," he said.

"What we want is to save Kenya from corruption. One who has failed Kenya is known. I was Kibaki's Vice President and I was loyal to his leadership. In fact, he retired in peace."

The DP and his allies have been attacking the Azimio coalition for staging an interview for the running mate slot saying it is a show of disrespect to the Wiper leader.

Ruto is among the leaders who took to social media to condemn the Azimio coalition saying they should at least respect Kalonzo.

In Mlolongo, Kalonzo used the occasion to reiterate that he will not attend the running mate interview.

He suggested that ODM leader Raila Odinga and President Uhuru Kenyatta should meet together with him and solve the stalemate amicably instead of having interviews.

Kalonzo said he sacrificed his ambitions for Raila and should therefore be made the running mate.

"I have tremendous respect for the panel that has been appointed. But they should understand me. I am not arrogant and rude. It is the people who say that the process is not for me because I have been a vice president and a running mate two times," Kalonzo said.

"With due respect, I won't go for the interview. A political process is a political process. There is no need for an interview, let us sit with Uhuru and Raila and talk over the matter."
