The remains of a 30-year-old man and his 3-year-old daughter were discovered in a local lodge.

Residents of Piai Village in Mwea, Kirinyaga county woke to the sad news of a man committing suicide after allegedly poisoning her daughter to death.

The remains of a 30-year-old man and his 3-year-old daughter were discovered in a local lodge.

Police reports indicate that the man allegedly killed his daughter by poisoning her food while in one of the lodge's accommodation rooms.

He is said to have then taken several bottles of the bears at the lodge before committing suicide by hanging.

His body is said to have been discovered this morning by the workers before his daughter's body was also recovered lying lifeless in the accommodation room.

Area police boss Daniel Kitavi told a local daily that preliminary investigations point to a small poison bottle that was discovered in the room and whose content might have been used in murdering the girl.

Kitavi concealed the names of the victims as the family is yet to be informed about the incident.

He said that the police are yet to establish what might have prompted him to commit the act.

In addition, the police boss revealed that the man was allegedly still in an inebriated state when he committed the crime.

Katavi disclosed that the man had all along stayed with his daughter in Wang'uru town and during the I'll fated moment,  he had taken the daughter out to have some fun.

The man is said to have separated from the girl's mother due to domestic-related challenges.

"Investigations are ongoing on what might have caused him to commit the heinous act," he said.

The bodies have been taken to Kerugoya referral hospital awaiting postmortem
