A presidential candidate is required to get 50 plus one for him or her to be declared the winner.

Azimio Presidential candidate Raila Odinga will win the presidency in round one if elections were to be held today, an opinion poll by Trends and Insights For Africa (TIFA) has shown

The poll released on Wednesday showed that ODM leader Raila Odinga will win the race with 53 per cent, according to scenario two analysis of voters who have made up their minds to vote.

A presidential candidate is required to get 50 plus one for him or her to be declared the winner.

Deputy President William Ruto ranks second with 45 per cent of those polled.

In scenario one, which includes all respondents whether they have decided to vote or not, Raila leads with 49 per cent followed by Ruto who has 41 per cent.

The same poll also showed that Ruto's UDA Party is the most preferred at 38 per cent followed by ODM at 32 per cent and  Jubilee at 5 per cent.

Out of the 9 regions, Raila leads in 7. They include Nyanza (75 per cent), Western 61 (per cent), South Rift (51 per cent), Nairobi and North Eastern (55 per cent each), Lower Eastern (64 per cent) and Coast (67 per cent). Raila has 19 per cent in Central 25 per cent.

Ruto on the other side leads in two regions:  Central Rift (75 per cent) and Mt Kenya (62 per cent). He has 27 per cent in Western, 45 per cent in South Rift, 15 per cent in Nyanza, 39 per cent in North Eastern, 33 per cent in Nairobi and 28 per cent in Lower Eastern.

The new poll comes five days before the August 9 general elections.

According to the law, Thursday is the final day an opinion poll can be released.

After the day, Kenyans will be required to prepare for the August 9 polls.
