  • Passengers discovered one of them dead inside a bus that was travelling to Mombasa
  • Health officials conducting tests to determine cause of death

A passenger died aboard a bus that was travelling from Busia to Mombasa County on Thursday night.

Reports indicate that the incident occurred at Mukaa near Malili town where the bus had packed for the night in compliance with the 10 pm curfew imposed by the government.

Confirming the incident, Makueni County Commissioner Mohammed Maalim said that the passengers noticed the man had died in his seat when they returned to the bus after refreshing outside.

The deceased's sister who was travelling with him said his brother had been feeling unwell for quite some time.

The county commissioner said that the deceased’s body temperature when he left Busia was 36.2C, which is normal.

“The health officers came in the morning and took the body to Machakos Level V Hospital mortuary,” Maalim stated.

He added that they have the details of all 31 other passengers, including the bus driver and conductor, just in case they have to conduct contact-tracing should the deceased be confirmed to have had Covid-19.
