The suspect was arrested following an operation by a multi-agency security team.

Police in Manyatta Chorora in Girime Location, Marsabit County have apprehended a terror suspect and recovered a number of hidden guns rounds of ammunition.

In a statement by the National Police Service (NPS) on Saturday night, May 28, the arrest was made by a multi-agency security team in the ongoing 'Operation Rejesha Amani Marsabit'.

NPS said that two AK-47 rifles with three magazines were recovered. The police further recovered eighty-nine rounds of live ammunition and two Carbine rifles with forty-nine rounds of ammunition.

The weapons and ammunition were hidden underground in four different sites in a grazing area, the police said.


Addressing the media after the recovery, Operation Commander Mr. Bennard Mbatha commended his team for their tireless efforts during the entire exercise.

He highlighted that so far the operation had successfully netted one hundred and thirty-six weapons of different models and over one thousand four hundred ammunition of different caliber.

Mr. Mbatha added that the operation will go on since there are areas which need to be combed in search of more illegal weapons.

“We have important leads from this particular scene and we’re following up as we’ll be getting more suspects,” he said.

The suspect in police custody was handed over to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations in Marsabit to help in further investigations before he is arraigned.
