Over 38 candidates had expressed interest in vying for the presidency in the August 9, general election.

Over 38 candidates had expressed interest in vying for the presidency in the August 9, general election.

The hurdle for the candidates was being cleared by the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) after they were listed and given dates to present nomination papers.

IEBC had stipulated all the requirements to be presented to the commission for clearance which has proved difficult for most candidates.

Among the key issues that have seen nomination papers for most candidates who had expressed interest in the presidency rejected are; failure to provide ID copies of their supporters, and failure to provide the minimum number of supporters' IDs and signatures.

Some of the presidential candidates whose applications were rejected by IEBC and complained about the harsh requirements are; Dr. Ekuru Aukot, Governor Mwangi wa Iria, Reuben Kigame among many others.

However, IEBC has managed to clear several who now have the green light to vie for the August polls.

They include;

1. Raila Odinga and Martha Karua of the Azimio Coalition party.

2. William Ruto and Rigathi Gachagua of United Democratic Alliance party.

3. Prof. George Wajackoyah of Roots Party.

4. David Mwaure Waihiga of Agano Party.

IEBC has now revoked Walter Mong'are's presidential certificate due to a lack of a degree.
