President Uhuru Kenyatta on Monday, June 13, officially opened the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) National Forensic Laboratory at the directorate’s headquarters along Kiambu Road.

The Head of State was joined by the DCI boss George Kinoti, Chief Justice Martha Koome, Interior CS Dr. Fred Matiang’i, and Nairobi Governor Anne Kananu, among other top government leaders.

According to the DCI, the forensic lab will help in solving crimes scientifically, and it had been a dream of the country for many years.

“The dream for the country to have a National Forensic facility that would help in solving crime scientifically has been elusive for many years, even after successive governments invested billions of shillings in the project,” the DCI stated.

The DCI further noted that the Forensic Laboratory had been identified as a security flagship project under Vision 2030 and was one of the projects expected to be completed between 2008 and 2012.

The laboratory will harbor detectives in various academic scientific fields such as Computer Science, Pure Mathematics, Chemistry, Biology, Biochemistry, Physics, and Information Technology among others.

DCI further stated that the completion of the facility signaled a new chapter in Kenya’s history as it was one of the country’s economic mainstay that would be key in shaping the country’s prosperity.
