US President-Elect Joe Biden called Kenya President Uhuru Kenyatta, where the latter congratulated him for his win.

Biden said he looks forward to building on Kenya-USA ties in partnerships, including the threat of climate change.

The USA President-elect also addressed the plight of refugees and regional security and stability as East Africa faces threats from terrorism.

When Biden was declared the winner, Uhuru sent a congratulatory message to the President-Elect after the hotly contested elections.

The Head of State termed the emphatic win in the hard-fought polls as a demonstration of Americans' confidence in the leadership credentials of the former Vice President.

"On behalf of the People and the Government of the Republic of Kenya, I congratulate President-Elect Joe Biden and Vice President-Elect Kamala Harris for their emphatic win and wish them all the best as they prepare to lead the United States of America into a future of prosperity," the President said.

"President-Elect Joe Biden is a friend of our country who has visited us in the past and helped in strengthening the strong ties that exist between us and the United States of America," he added.

Biden's plan to tackle climate change has been described as the most ambitious of any mainstream US presidential candidate yet.

President Kenyatta has called for urgent and bold interventions to deal with the challenges posed by climate change in Africa.
