The governor is seeking to have the IEBC clear him to vie for the presidency in the August polls.

Murang’a governor Mwangi Wa Iria has moved to the Supreme Court after the Independent Electoral Boundaries (IEBC) barred him from running for the presidency.

The Usawa kwa Wote party leader said that he presented his protest letter to Chief Justice Martha Koome on Tuesday morning.

According to Wa Iria, he had filed a petition with the court three weeks ago but claimed that the judges failed to listen to the matter.

“This morning I presented my protest letter to The President of Supreme Court Hon. Lady Justice CJ Martha Karambu Koome. This is after three Judges failed to listen to the matter I filed in Court three weeks ago under a Certificate of Urgency,” he stated.

According to IEBC, the governor had been had locked out of the August presidential contest as did not meet the requirements.

However, he claimed that he had presented the requisite signatures and documents to the IEBC for clearance, but the commission locked him out without any clear answer.

In an earlier protest, Wa Iria said that he would convert his Usawa Kwa Wote party into a resistance movement if the IEBC could not clear him.

"If by the end of the day they will not register me, I will convert my party into a resistance movement, they can be sure of that," Wa Iria stated.
