Chief Justice Martha Koome on Monday, September 19, gave the parliamentary induction ceremony at the Safari Park Hotel a wide berth. 

Koome skipped the event after a section of Azimio la Umoja One Kenya MPs warned that they would walk out if the CJ attended the ceremony.

The Chief Justice was instead represented by Court of Appeal President Justice Daniel Musinga who delivered Koome’s speech during the ceremony.

Koome was one of the invited guests to the week-long induction ceremony of Members of Parliament at the Safari Park Hotel in Nairobi.

However, a section of MPs allied to Azimio said that they had no time for the Chief Justice claiming that she was disrespectful while delivering her ruling on the presidential petition.

Led by Nyando legislator Jared Okello and his Funyula counterpart Wilberforce Oundo, the lawmakers said that Koome's judgement was full of insults.

"We are dissatisfied that Parliament has invited the Chief Justice to come and make a presentation. The judgment that she rendered was full of insults and I do not think we deserved them," Okello stated.

The lawmaker further claimed that the Chief Justice did not interpret the law correctly, threatening to walk away if she showed up.

"She does not interpret the law as it ought to be. We will respectfully walk away when she shows up to make that presentation," Okello added.
