The President has said being in power is a difficult job as it denies him sleep.

President Uhuru Kenyatta has reiterated that he does not wish to remain in power beyond the August 9 general election.

Speaking on Friday at State House, Nairobi, while hosting hundreds of religious leaders from the Central Kenya Region, the President said that being in power is a difficult job.

The Head of State further stated that the job has denied him sleep, adding that 10 years were enough for him.

“I don’t want to remain in power as they allege. This is a difficult job, no sleep. This house is full of challenges and ten years for me is enough. I am waiting for 9th August,” the President said.

According to President Kenyatta, his desire is to leave his successor a cohesive and peaceful nation and he looks forward to his retirement.

President Kenyatta also took the opportunity to explain his political choices, detailing his reasons for siding with the Azimio La Umoja One Kenya coalition.

He said that despite never being on the same side politically with Azimio presidential running mate Martha Karua, he sides with her because she is principled.

“Despite the fact that we have never been on the same side politically with Martha, she is just and principled. It is better I follow someone who is principled. Who is just, truthful and led by the desire to serve people but not self,” Uhuru stated.

The President was hosting the religious leaders at State House for a non-denominational worship and prayer service.
