Mixed Reactions as MP Kanini Kega's Personal Assistant is Arrested

Kieni MP Kanini Kega has cried foul after his Personal Assistant Dickson Ndirangu alias 'DIK' was arrested and detained on Friday, July 8.

Addressing the press on Saturday, the Jubilee Party Director of Elections revealed that Ndirangu was arrested and later detained at King'ong'o in Nyeri after the court's order.

While laying the blame on his competitors, the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP), and a Nyeri magistrate, the MP said Ndirangu was arrested and rushed to Nyeri Law Courts where the magistrate ruled that he should be detained pending the hearing of the case on Wednesday, July 13.

The MP claimed that his personal assistant was arrested because of vigorously campaigning for his re-election in Kieni, adding that the police did not allow him to record any statement or issue any reasons for his arrest. 

"He was literally removed from his Mweiga home and taken to Nyeri police station...they have put you in Remand for absolutely no reason, just because you are vigorously campaigning for me. We shall get you out and justice will prevail! This is a conspiracy between the office of the DPP and a magistrate. Panic manifestation in our opponent's camp," claimed Kanini Kega.

The legislator alleged that it is the DPP that has drawn the charge sheet that was presented before the courts and not the officers arresting his PA.

"We know that the DPP is playing partisan politics and on Tuesday, we are going to court to expose you. We want to know how you can initiate a charge sheet without any investigations, then the magistrate pronounces himself immediately on the case and closes the court," added Kanini Kega.

He added that he also intervened on Friday when two of his supporters were also arrested in Narumoru and taken to the police station. He said there were also no charges pressed on the two.

In particular, Kega laid the blame on DP Ruto's running mate and Mathira MP Rigathi Gachagua, claiming he is behind his 'frustrations' in Kieni.

He claimed that he is the one using other forces to fight him from getting re-elected again.

"We have heard you Rigathi saying I am not going to be the MP of Kieni as long as you are in politics. I want to assure you categorically that you have no vote in Kieni no matter how you are trying to use other forces to frustrate me you are not going to influence our voting pattern. I will be in p[arliament and you will be outside not even as a Deputy President," claimed Kanini Kega

However, a section of netizens has come out to weigh in on the controversial arrest of Kanini's personal assistant.

While some of them sympathized with the legislator, a good number of the users castigated Kanini and the PA, claiming Ndirangu has been a goon and allegedly manhandling and terrorizing supporters during his campaigns.
