Leaders who lost in nominations or willingly stepped aside have dominated the nominations list

Less than a month into the next general elections on August 9, leaders from across political divides are racing against time to set their houses in order as far as political survival after August is concerned.

Already, the two leading presidential candidates, Raila Odinga (Azimio) and William Ruto (UDA) have handed in lists of their preferred nominees to be nominated to both National Assembly and Senate after the general polls.

The same action has been taken by two other principles of two major parties in the country; Musalia Mudavadi (ANC) and Kalonzo Musyoka of the Wiper party.

In a leaked list of nominees presented to the Registrar of Political Parties and forwarded to the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) for review and approval, Ruto and Raila picked their allies who were either defeated in the recent party primaries or stepped down and paved way for other aspirants

DP William Ruto's UDA party has nominated UDA Secretary-General Veronica Waheti Nduati (Veronica Maina), Narok Woman Representative Soipan Tuya, Laikipia Woman Rep Catherine Waruguru. Okenyuri Anyieni, Aurelia Chepkirui, Consolata Wakwabubi, Raphaela Dukan, Christine Mwanyule, Genevieve Wasonga, Halima Abdul and Jamhuri Guyo also made to Woman nominees list.

Others who appeared on the UDA list include; Kajiado East MP Peris Tobiko, Nairobi Woman Rep aspirant Karen Nyamu, and Bomet Woman Rep Joyce Korir. Ms Nduati, Miraj Abdulrahman, Gloria Orwaba, Maureen Mutinda.

National Assembly nominees for UDA include; Jackson Kosgei, Teresia Mwangi, Dorothy Ikiara, Abdisirat Ali, Ms Waruguru, Jonas Kuko, Jackline Lukalo, Joseph Iraya,Jane Putunoi, Charles Njagua, Christabel Amunga and Fredrick Charles Muteti.

Azimio la Umoja, One Kenya Alliance Presidential candidate Raila Odinga's ODM party has forwarded the names of Irene Mayaka, John Mbadi, Umulkher Mohamed, Harold Kipchumba, Mary Mwami, John Ketora, Everlyne Cherobon, Richard Kasoo, Hillary Ochieng, Naomi Wainaina, Kantim Mwaniki and Hulda Odhiambo as nominees to the National Assembly.

Betty Montet, Beth Syengo, Anisa Juma, Rosemary Kariuki, Sunjeev Birdi, Beatrice Oyomo and Hamida Kibwanaare women nominees presented by ODM for senate.

On the other hand, Musalia Mudavadi's party has forwarded the name of ANC Secretary-General Simon Mwangi Kamau, and Nominated Senator Petronila Were for nomination. Kalonzo Musyoka's Wiper party has nominated Senator Sylvia Kasanga and Wiper Secretary General Shakila Abdalla for the posts.

Kanu has nominated Mr Conrad Thorpe, a businessman for nomination to the National Assembly. The list is, however, not a final one and is open for reviews by the IEBC and Registrar of Political parties to meet the third gender rule.

July 18, 2022, is the final day for all parties to present their lists of nominees. Parties are required to forward a list of 12 nominees to the National Assembly, 16 female nominees to the Senate, two youth nominees to the Senate and two disabled people to the Senate.
