Interior CS Dr. Fred Matiang’i has put on notice some politicians in two counties in the Coast region over a plan to mass up groups to engage in crime during the August polls.

Speaking in Mombasa on Wednesday, the CS said that some political players in the region may be tempted to group criminal gangs.

He said that his ministry had looked into the matter, urging the politicians not to go ahead with their plans as they were being watched.

Matiang’i asked the regional security team at the Coast to act ruthlessly on any individual that would try and engage in criminal activities.

“The only dimension that we have looked at together is aspects in some two counties in this region where possibly players in the electoral process may be tempted, and we are not saying some evidence of that temptation, to try and mass up small groups that could engage in crime.

“My simple advice to the is don’t try because we are watching very closely and I have asked my colleagues in the regional security team to act ruthlessly on any individual, politician, or any player who is going to try to do those kinds of things” Matiang’i stated.

Matiang’i further added that his ministry was determined to keep the Coastal region safe through the electoral process as the August general election gets closer.
