Shioso on Friday confirmed that indeed the three elections officials had been arrested.

The National Police Service has broken Its Silence following the arrests of three Venezuelans at JKIA shortly after they arrived in the country.

This comes hours after IEBC Chair Wafula Chebukati condemned the State for arresting the three persons saying they were officials of a firm they contracted to manage the coming polls.

A statement by police Spokesperson Bruno Shioso on Friday confirmed that indeed the three elections officials had been arrested.

According to the police report, the four were arrested because of the following reasons:

  1. The three had election stickers not declared as per law.
  2. The officials were not accompanied by IEBC officials as per the routine procedure.
  3. That such sensitive material was carried in the personal luggage of a foreigner.
  4. The police as per the Standard procedure and management with IEBC was not notified of such an import beforehand to provide necessary security and escort.

Shioso however divulged that that their investigations have established that the materials carried by the three Venezuelans belong to the IEBC adding that they have since released the three.

"Subsequent investigations have revealed the stickers are bona fide property of the IEBC and part of election-related material," Bruno stated.

" Based on the above findings, the suspect has been released from lawful custody and the stickers released to IEBC."
