"They now want to go the Msando way," Musalia Mudavadi.

ANC leader Musalia Mudavadi has claimed that the arrest of three Venezuelans of a firm contracted by IEBC is a reminder of the disappearance of late former IEBC official Chris Msando.

In a statement on Friday, the Kenya Kwanza principal said that the arrest was unlawful, alleging that IEBC ICT officials are now being compelled to give out information.

“This dastardly arrest of the election personnel reminds us of the disappearance and macabr killing of the head of ICT at the IEBC, Chris Msando, in 2017.

“They now want to go the Msando way, through forcing out of ICT officials information that should enable them to beat computer firewalls. We must call them out for this. The elections must not be tampered with,” Mudavadi stated.

IEBC chairman Wafula Chebukati.

IEBC chairman Wafula Chebukati on Thursday said the three Venezuelans arrested at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport were "key personnel responsible for deployment and management of election technology infrastructure".

The IEBC chair expressed his disappointment ollowing the arrest as he said they were employees of Smartmatic International B.V.

However, the National Police Service (NPS) stated that the three were arrested due to various reasons including being in possession of election stickers not accompanied by IEBC officials as required by law.

"Subsequent investigations have revealed the stickers are bona fide property of the IEBC and part of election-related material," police spokesperson Bruno Shioso stated.
