Korir is now both an Olympic and World champion after winning the Tokyo Olympics last year.

Kenya has won its second gold medal at the ongoing World Athletics Championships in Oregon USA after Emannuel Korir stormed to victory in the men's 800 Metres finals.

Korir, who came into the race as the favourite, clocked 1:43.71 to win the race ahead of Djamel Sedjati of Algeria who came second with 1:44.14. Marco Arop of Canada sealed the top three position with 1:44.28

Korir is now both an Olympic and World champion after winning the Tokyo Olympics last year. 

Kenya's young talent and world U-20 champion Emmanuel Wanyonyi finished just outside the podium by a whisker to be placed in fourth.

This now become Kenya's second gold medal in the championships after Faith Kipyegon won its first in the 1500 meters.

Kenya has not outlived the expectations of many at the ongoing championships and focus now shifts to the Commonwealth Games in the United Kingdom that starts in less than a week.


In other races, Kenya's Beatrice Chebet won silver in women's 5000 Metres coming second after Ethiopia's Gudaf Tsegay who won the Gold medal with 14:46.29.
