Migori County police boss Mark Wanjala has confirmed the detention of the candidate pending arraignment.

Nyatike Member of Parliament candidate Erick Anyanga Omondi has been arrested on claims of shooting his opponent.

Anyanga, who is eyeing the Nyatike parliamentary seat on a UPIA party ticket is said to have shot at Justus Ochieng at a local pup at Lwanda Konyango in Migori County.

Ochieng was served as the area MP.

The incident happened on July 23. 

Migori County police boss Mark Wanjala has confirmed the detention of Anyanga pending arraignment.

The incident saw the police confiscate his gun and 12 rounds of ammunition on the night the shooting happened.

The two are said to have been engaged in a confrontation at the pub before the shooting incident occurred.

Ochieng was reportedly shot at the hip and was rushed to the hospital for medication and first aid care.

A manhunt was thereafter launched for Anaynga leading to his arrest.

Close associates of the aspirant, in a bid to exonerate him from blame, said he was defending himself.
