  • The governor moved to court fighting the impeachment.
  • The judge did not explained why he withdrew from the case.

Justice James Rika has recused himself from a case involving Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko.

This is after Sonko moved to court challenging his impeachment. The impeachment motion was to be tabled on Thursday.

Sonko's lawyer accused the court of bias in this matter, insisting that the orders stopping the impeachment are still in force.

However, county assembly lawyers said the orders have been vacated.

Reports indicate that the judge recused himself after tempers flared in court on the issues linked to the ongoing impeachment.

Lawyer Harrison Kinyanjui, representing Sonko, said the judge recused himself without giving a reason.
