Kenyans will vote next week on Tuesday, August 9,  which has already been declared a public holiday. 

The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has stated that the presidential results will be announced within seven days after Tuesday. 

Addressing the press on Thursday, August 4, IEBC commissioner Justus Nyang'aya noted that the presidential winner would be announced within seven days after voting. 

Kenyans will vote next week on Tuesday, August 9, 2022, which has been declared a public holiday. 

To allow Kenyans to vote, CS Fred Matiang'i gazetted Tuesday as a public holiday.

"It is notified for information to the public that the Cabinet Secretary for Interior and Co-ordination of National Government, pursuant to and in the exercise of the powers conferred by section 2 (4) of the Public Holidays Act, read together with Articles 101 (1), 177 (1) (a) and 180 (1) of the Constitution of Kenya 2010, declares Tuesday, 9th August 2022, as a public holiday to afford the people of Kenya the opportunity to participate in the 2022 general elections of Members of Parliament, Members of County Assemblies and County Governors," gazette notice read. 

IEBC has cleared four candidates to contest in the presidential race; DP William Ruto, Raila Odinga, Lawyer George Wajackoyah and Agano Party's David Mwaure Waihiga. 

According to recent polls by TIFA, Ifotrak, and Ipsos, Odinga and Ruto are the two leading candidates ahead of next week's polls.
