The electoral commission is hoping that presidential election losers will concede defeat.

The Independent Electoral Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has stated that it hopes presidential candidates who will lose in the just concluded general election will concede defeat.

Speaking during a press briefing on Thursday, IEBC Commissioner, Prof. Abdi Guliye said that for the first time in Kenya’s election history, contestants in various levels were conceding defeat.

Guliye said that it was an indication that everyone was satisfied with the electoral process the commission hoped that the trend continued to presidential results.

He said that IEBC decided to make the electoral process transparent so that everyone is satisfied and and have confidence in the process.

IEBC Chairman Wafula Chebukati with IEBC CEO Hussein Marjan at the Bomas of Kenya.

“For the first tie in the history of elections in Kenya we have seen contestants conceding defeat at various levels and this is an indication that each one of them are satisfied with the process. And it is our hope that the trend will continue up to the presidential results,” the IEBC commissioner stated.

However, Guliye stated that the electoral commission will be ready to defend itself in any case any of the contestants was not satisfied with the results.

“The reason we have gone to greater lengths of making the process as open as possible is to ensure that everybody is satisfied so that there is no need for one to go to court,

“But as a commission we will prepare ourselves to defend our position in whatever court that we will be taken,” Guliye stated.
