The former State House Chief of Staff has conceded defeat in Machakos gubernatorial race.

Former State House Chief of Staff Nzioka Waita has conceded defeat in the Machakos County gubernatorial race.

In a tweet on Friday, August 12, the Chama Cha Uzalendo party leader conceded to Wiper Party’s candidate in the race, Wavinya Ndeti.

Waita congratulated Wavinya adding that he wished her well as she took over the leadership of the Ukambani county.

“I wish to take this opportunity to congratulate our incoming Governor for the County of Machakos Hon. Wavinya Ndeti. I wish her & her team every success as she takes over the reigns of the County 016,” Waita tweeted.

Speaking previously to the media after the polls, Wavinya said that she was confident that she would clinch the seat thanking her supporters for rallying behind her.

She said that according to forms 37A that are used to tally the gubernatorial results, her party had clinched victory in the election.

"Sisi tuko na forms zetu zote za 37A na tumejua ushindi ni wetu. Kwa hivyo muwe na amani tukifuatilia process ya IEBC hadi itakapotutangaza kama washindi,” Wavinya told her supporters.

Meanwhile, in Kirinyaga County, Kirinyaga Governor Anne Mumbi Waiguru has floored her fiercest competitor Purity Ngirici to retain her seat.

Waiguru, who contested in a UDA ticket, garnered 113,088 votes against Ngirici's 105,677 votes.
