The date for the schools' reopening had been set on Monday, August 15.

Education Cabinet Secretary George Magoha has announced the new date for the reopening of schools and other institions of learning.

All the learning institutions embarked on a brief break ahead of the August 9 General Election.

Learning would then resume a few days later.

However, as per the goings-on post August 9, the ministry rescheduled the reopening date to Monday, August 15.

The date has now been pushed three days forward; this is however dependent on how events will unfold as the country awaits the presidential vote outcome to be officially announced by the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC).

In an official statement sent to media houses on Saturday, August 13, Magoha said that the new date was informed by the ongoing tallying and verification of ballots at Nairobi's Bomas of Kenya.

"Following the conduct of our National Elections on Tuesday 9th August, 2022 the process of tallying of ballots is still ongoing. Therefore, following further consultations. I hereby convey the Government’s decision on the suspension of the re-opening of ALL Basic Education institutions with effect from Monday, 15th August, 2022 until Thursday 18th August, 2022," reads Magoha's statement.
