The UDA candidate for Nairobi gubernatorial seat has trounced Azimio's Polycarp Igathe to win the seat.

UDA Nairobi gubernatorial candidate Johnson Sakaja has trounced his closest competitor Polycarp  Igathe of Azimio to win the Nairobi gubernatorial seat. 

In an announcement by the Nairobi County Returning Officer Albert Gogo on Sunday, August 14, Sakaja garnered 699,392 votes against Igathe's 576,516 votes.

"As the county returning officer for the Nairobi City governor elections 2022 do hereby declare Johnson Arthur Sakaja duly elected Governor for Nairobi City County," Gogo stated.

In the Nairobi senatorial race, ODM's Edwin Sifuna emerged the winner after garnering 716,876 votes beating UDA's Margaret Wanjiru who garnered 524,091 votes.

Speaking after being declared the Nairobi senator-elect, Sifuna thanked his supporters for giving him the opportunity to serve as the county's senator.

He said that his party held peaceful campaigns and that he was waiting for the results adding that he will serve Nairobi residents diligently.

"I want to take this opportunity to thank the people of Nairobi for honouring me with this particular position and I want to assure you that I will serve you diligently and every day I will wake up to work for the people of the county of Nairobi, Sifuna stated.

In the Nairobi Woman Representative race, ODM's Esther Passaris retained her seat after garnering 698,929 votes defeating UDA's Millicent Omanga who came in second with 586,246 votes.
