Outgoing Kesses MP Swarup Mishra denied claims he had withdrawn his scholarship programme after losing the parliamentary seat in the just-concluded General Election.

Outgoing Kesses MP Swarup Mishra has denied terminating the scholarship programme he had put in place for his constituents.

Unconfirmed reports had made rounds on social media suggesting the lawmaker had resorted to ending the noble cause after he lost the parliamentary seat in the 2022 General Election.

Kenyans who fell prey to the rumours accused the immediate-former lawmaker of faking leadership as he sought re-election into the August House.

They argued that Mishra was using the programme to woo voters, only for his true colours to come up after losing his seat.

Flagging the claims as fake, the politician affirmed his programme was still on.

He thanked the Kesses constituents for entrusting him with the chance to lead them for two terms.

"Dear Kenyans, For the past one week, the social media has been awash with FAKE NEWS that I have withdrawn scholarship for 300 Students from Kesses Constituency. I urge you all to disregard the rumors, FAKE NEWS and sophisticated disinformation campaigns being peddled across-board.

The program is still on course and by the Great Grace of God we shall continue absorbing and supporting more students. I also take this opportunity to thank The Great People of Kesses for the opportunity, trust and endearing love they accorded me all along," he said.

Mishra lost his seat to UDA's Julius Ruto, a former Uasin Gishu County official.

Ruto garnered over 30,000 votes against Mishra’s more than 20,000.
