Kenya Airways said that a medical emergency forced its pilots to divert the plane. 

Kenya Airways has confirmed that one of the passengers died aboard their flight from New York to Nairobi on Monday, August 22. 

In a statement on Tuesday, August 23, the carrier popularly known as KQ, stated that a medical emergency forced its pilots to divert the plane to Casablanca, Morocco after the passenger fell ill mid-air.  

However, upon arrival, it was confirmed that the passenger had already passed away. 

"On arrival in Casablanca, medical personnel at the airport found the passenger unresponsive and was confirmed to have passed away. 

 "We convey our deepest condolences to the family and friends of the deceased and sincerely apologise to our other guests for the inconvenience," part of the statement read.  

Kenya Airways is yet to reveal the identity of the passenger but reports indicate the family has been informed.
