The message has since gone viral on social media.

Former Chief Justice David Maraga has disowned a viral tweet purportedly from him endorsing President-elect William Ruto's win.

In a message via his official Twitter handle, Maraga stated that the message was fake and not from him.

"This tweet circulating on social media purporting to be authored by me is fake, please ignore," the retired Chief Justice said.

Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) Chair Wafula Chebukati declared Ruto the President-elect in the recently concluded general election.

However, Azimio presidential candidate Raila Odinga has since rejected the results and filed a petition at the Supreme Court on Monday, August 22, 2022.

"The law is clear on the role of the Chairperson of the IEBC. The law does not vest in the Chairperson the powers of a dictator to rule the IEBC unilaterally. The IEBC is structured as a democratic institution in which decisions must be taken either by consensus or by a vote of the majority," Odinga said while rejecting the results.

There is also a split among the IEBC Commissioners with four of them Vice-chair Juliana Cherera, Francis Wanderi, Justus Nyang’aya and Irene Masit disputing the results announced by Chebukati.
