The cause of death of Gichugu Constituency Returning Officer Geoffrey Gitobu has been revealed.

A postmortem examination on deceased Gichugu Constituency Returning Officer Geoffrey Gitobu has revealed that the IEBC official died due to a blood clot in one of the arteries of his heart. 

Speaking to the press on Wednesday, IEBC pathologist Ayub Macharia said that the clot prevented flow of blood in Mr. Gitobu’s heart hence resulting in his death.

Mr. Macharia further said that the deceased IEBC official had a low blood count adding that he had no physical injuries on his body.

“Kile tumepata kiini ya kifo ni kwamba damu ilikuwa imeganda na ikaenda kwa mshipa wa damu ambao unaitwa pulmonary artery na ukaziba. Kwa hivo damu haiwezi pitia kutoka kwa upande wa kulia wa roho kwenda kwa mapafu. Hapo ndio ilisababisha kifo,” Mr. Macharia stated.

“Pia tumepata ya kwamba damu yake ilikuwa chini. Alikuwa na anaemia. Kwa kumuangalia hakuwa na majeraha yoyote kwenye mwili,” Mr. Macharia added.

According to Kirinyaga County IEBC manager Jane Gitonga, Mr. Gitobu had collapsed at the IEBC offices in Nanyuki before he was rushed to a private health facility where he was pronounced dead.

Laikipia county DCI boss Onesmus Towett on Tuesday dispelled rumours of a possible killing of Mr. Gitobu maintaining urging the public to wait for the postmortem result.

Mr. Gitobu death came days after missing Embakasi East returning officer Daniel Mbolu Musyoka was found dead in a thicket in Loitoktok.
