The Wiper Party has has proved its dominance in the Ukambani politics after pocketing the Kitui Rural MP seat.

David Mwalika of Wiper party won the seat after garnering 19,745 votes.

UDA party candidate Charles Nyamai, his closest competitor, got 10,177 votes.

Mwalika is the incumbent MP.

The Wiper party, an affiliate of Azimio La Umoja Coalition One Kenya Alliance, was keen on winning the seat to boost its numbers in the National Assembly.

Wiper party leaders had pitched tent in the area  following the postponement of the election.

The total vote cast was 33, 089 out of 55,000 registered voters.

Constituency returning officer, Macharia Gichichi Ndoti, announced that 166 votes were spoilt.

The voter turnout was put at 54.7 per cent.

Mwalika was handed the victory certificate in the company of the UKambani parliamentary group chair Benson Makali Mulu who is also the MP Kitui central.

Others present were the Kitui senator Enoch Wambua and the county woman member of the national assembly.
