I Will Be Calling President Uhuru Kenyatta Shortly - President-elect William Ruto

President-elect William Ruto has disclosed that he will be calling President Uhuru Kenyatta for a conversation regarding the transition process. 

Addressing the press on Monday, September 5, Ruto said that he had not spoken to President Kenyatta in months.

He added that he took no offense with Kenyatta's choice to support his competitor Raila Odinga. 

"I will shortly be calling President Uhuru Kenyatta, I haven’t talked to him in months, so that we can have a conversation on the process of transition. I take no offense at all that he decided to choose and support somebody else," he said. 

The President-elect noted that they would respect President Kenyatta in retirement. 

"We will respect the president in retirement. We are not petty or jealous. The President will have a place in the history of Kenya," he said. 

Ruto said that he would call Odinga but affirmed he did not believe in handshake stories. 

"I will be putting a call to Raila and his Azimio team so that we can begin to contextualize how we will work together for Kenyans. I don't believe in 'handshake' stories. I believe in a government held to account by a responsible opposition," he stated. 

He added," The hero of a campaign is the legendary mama mboga and boda boda. The hero of the election is Wafula Chebukati and the IEBC and the hero of our democracy and the rule of law and constitutionalism is our judiciary."
