William Ruto won the presidency in his first attempt.

Activist Boniface Mwangi has disclosed that Azimio la Umoja One Kenya Alliance lost the presidency because of betrayal.

In a statement on Twitter, the activist divulged that the Azimio leader Raila Odinga and his running mate Martha Karua said the story surrounding the betrayal was long. 

He explained his support for the duo saying the outcome of the August 9, presidential polls has not left him a worried person.

"I’m not worried. Not at all. I supported Raila & Martha who l believed deserved to run Kenya but they lost. Why they lost is a long story of deceit and betrayal," he said.

He added:

"I have never been beaten or arrested fighting for myself, it’s always for other people’s rights. I will be fine. Will you?"

The activist was ardent supporter of the Azimio coalition and was more often seeing on its campaign entourage.

The Azimio la Umoja coalition lost the presidency to Ruto after IEBC chair Wafula Chebukati announced him the winner on August 15.

His victory was upheld by the Supreme Court of Kenya which on Monday ruled that he got the requisite 50 plus one required for one to be declared President-elect.

The court also ruled that the IEBC conducted the August 9, elections in accordance with the law.

Following the declaration, the President-elect will be sworn into office on Tuesday, September 13 at Kasarani Stadium.
