Kiambu Govenor Kimani Wmatangi is among the first responders at the site of the tragedy.

A 7-storey building has collapsed in Kiambu county this Monday morning sending panic among residents and officials in a rescue mission.

Preliminary reports indicate that several people are trapped in the debris.

The building collapsed in Kiringiti, Kiambu county.

Kiambu Governor Kimani Wamatangi is among the first responders on site, a video seen by Nairobi Leo has shown.

Rescue operations are in top gear.

"Devastating News This Morning! I was driving to the office this morning, and was diverted to the site of a building under construction that collapsed at Kirigiti in Kiambu Town.

"Let us help each other. I urge those standing over there to come and help us to remove this rubble and save those trapped inside," Governor Wamatangi urged locals.



It is not clear yet the number of people who were at the site when the tragedy happened.

Several county ambulances are at the scene of the tragedy with those rescued being rushed to the hospital.
