The Raila Odinga-led Azimio la Umoja coalition party has settled on the candidates for National Assembly and Senate Speaker positions.

Azimio la Umoja One Kenya coalition party has settled on candidates for the positions of speakers of both houses, the National Assembly and the Senate.

In a statement by ODM director of communications Philip Etale on Wednesday, September 6, Azimio fronted Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka for the Senate Speaker position.

The coalition party further fronted former National Assembly Speaker Kenneth Marende for the position of the Speaker of the National Assembly.

“Hon. Kenneth Marende to go for speaker of the National Assembly and Hon Kalonzo Musyoka to go for speaker of the senate,” Etale tweeted.

Kalonzo had previously submitted his papers to be nominated for the position of Speaker for both the National Assembly and the Senate.

Both the National Assembly and the Senate are expected to have their first sitting on Thursday, September 8 during which the MPs-elect will be sworn into office.

After the swearing-in of the lawmakers, the first business of the houses will be to elect their new speakers.

Meanwhile, on the Kenya Kwanza faction, Bungoma senator-elect Moses Wetangula had been fronted for the position of the Speaker of the National Assembly.

Kenya Kwanza also fronted former Kilifi Governor Amason Kingi for the Senate Speaker position with former Mombasa senator Hassan Omar quitting the race to back the former county boss.
